mTAG Object Edit

Objects can be edited either individually or in batches. Enter the Object editor by selecting one or more Objects on the mTAG list page, or by selecting Edit on an individual mTAG Object detail page.

All Object attributes and Experiences can be edited on the Object edit page. When batch editing mTAG Objects, some fields may show a value of "mixed" indicating values vary from object to object. To set a new value across all selected mTAG Objects enter a new value, or leave the attribute as "mixed" to leave the current properties unchanged.


Use a [stationary] Venue Type and Asset Type for Objects of known and fixed location, such as a bus shelter or billboard.

Use a [mobile] Venue Type or Asset Type for Objects known to move. Location will be determined at the time of Interaction by either asking the user to provide their precise geo-coordinates or by the device IP address.



Choose the Experience or Action an Object will show when tapped by a user: Experience Studio or URL Redirect

Experience Studio

Choose an Experience built in the Studio.

URL Redirect

URL Redirect will take the user directly to a stated URL once the Object has been tapped. You can add the URL redirect under Advanced → URL Redirect.


For Experiences with Campaigns added to them, you can assign and add them to Objects by matching the appropriate Campaign position and name.

For instance, if you create a Campaign from the Dashboard and call it Add Your Website, in the Studio you'll add a Campaign Component in the relevant Experience – say Campaign A – and will then edit the corresponding Objects by adding both under Campaigns.

Don't forget to press the plus sign to add the Campaign to your Object. 


The type of location an Object is being associated with. 

Venue Name

Customize the venue name to fit the particular Object(s). 


The identifying category of an Object. 

Asset Identifier

A more granular description of what the Object is. 


This information denotes where the Object is located. We use geo-location to determine the coordinates and localities which are then used to auto-populate other attributes such as DMA and Address Components.  


DMA stands for Designated Market Area and corresponds to a region that is offered similar media offerings. The DMA will auto-populate if you select the address from our geo-location suggestion. 


Change the Status of your mTAGs to update exactly where in the development process your tags are.

ActiveThe mTAG has been encoded, embedded, enabled, and the Object is live.
DemoThe mTAG is being used simply for demo purposes.
InactiveThe mTAG is not enabled and is no longer hosting live Experiences.
InventoryThe mTAG is not yet enabled.
OutventoryThe mTAGs are being shipped by the manufacturer and have not been enabled or embedded yet. 
OverageThese are extra mTAGs that are currently being used.
ShippedThe mTAGs are in transit to their designated delivery location. 
Vandalized The mTAGs have been tampered with and are no longer working as expected
DefectiveThe Object or mTAG isn't working properly


Add additional information about the Object in order to differentiate it from the rest of the Objects in your account.


Adjust how your URL appears when loaded in a browser. This title won't alter the domain, but it will simply change what the browser displays. 


Web Hooks

Web Hooks allow you to integrate with various reporting APIs to POST Object data from the dashboard. Each Web Hook configured for the tag will be formatted as a JSON encoded string. 

Address Components

Edit the various location attributes for your Object. This information is filled out automatically when the geo-location suggestion is chosen. 


Add social media handles and IDs to link Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube profiles.

Studio Components

Be sure to add the corresponding social media Component in the Studio in order to display the appropriate experience. 

Decode Authentication (only for supported mTAGs)

In order to use our authentication solution, mTAG Objects will need NFC tags with rolling code as well as the product's description and image URL.

Preview an authenticated Experience by clicking on Decode Preview √ when viewing an individual Object.

URL Redirect

The URL redirect only works with the URL redirect Experience and cannot be found in the Experience Studio.

Custom Tag Data

For Objects that have unique properties, use Custom Tag Data to add additional descriptive fields. With the use of Macros, unique properties can be pulled in dynamically into their respective Experience, and apps, to create unique experiences for each Object.

On the right, input the custom attribute label, and on the left, input the attribute value. You can add information such as product descriptions, colors, SKU numbers, UPC and EPC codes, etc. 

Tag Variables (formerly User Data)

Tag Variables are editable Object properties that enable users who interact with an Object to change their value. Users cannot change defined attributes of the tag such as Location, Asset ID, Venue Name, etc., rather, Tag Variables allow them to add data which will alter how that Object displays its Experience.

Product registration is an example use case. Users can register specific products to their name by filling out a Form and submitting their information. With the appropriate setup and macros, the Object would then be registered to that specific user as the Tag Variable will be updated to reflect the user's data input. You'll notice this change reflected under mTAG Object Details and when editing an Object under this section. 

5 Minute Timer

If using a registration form, users have up to 5 minutes to fill out the registration form. After 5 minutes, the form will expire, no longer accept entries, and users will have to retap the Object in order to register their Object. 

To configure Tag Variables in the Studio, set an Action Component Action type to Tag Variables and change the Value to either a static input or Macro. Tag Variables in the Dashboard need to match with the Studio or else user data won't be recorded correctly.
